Nobility crown AlegriaLa mayoría de los autores opinan que procede este apellido de la villa de Alegría de Oria, del partido judicial de Tolosa (Guipúzcoa). Otros afirman que procede de Navarra, y hay también quien estíma que viene de la villa de A. de Álava, en el partido judicial de Vitoria. Lo más cierto es que de la casa de A. de Oria salieron muchos caballeros que se extendieron por las Vascongadas, Navarra y Aragón. Algunos pasaron a Andalucía y otros a Murcia, estableciéndose en la villa de Totana. En Guipúzcoa, a más de la referida casa de Alegría de Oria, hubo otras en las villas de Oñate y Motrico, del partido judicial de Vergara; y en la de Guetaria, del de Azpéitia. Lope García de A., hijo de Ochoa López de A., y Lope y Martín López de A., hijos de Miguel López de A., eran vecinos de Tolosa en 1346, y Juan López de A., Alcalde de la misma villa en 1399. José Antonio y Juan Bautista de A., naturales de Beizama, probaron su hidalguía en la misma villa de Tolosa en 1798. En Vizcaya hubo casas de este apellido en Guernica, Guerricaci, del partido judicial de Marquina; en la anteiglesia de Axpe de Busturia, del partido judicial de Guernica, y en la barriada de Bolibar, o Puebla de Bolibar; del Ayuntamiento de Cenarruza y partido de Marquina. Otra hay junto a Bilbao. La de Guernica era casa-torre y le pertenecía la capilla de San Pedro de la iglesia mayor de Santa María, de la citada villa, según manifiesta don Juan Francisco de Hita. ...
