Es una de las principales casas solares de la villa de Zumárraga, del partido judicial de Vergara (Guipúzcoa) y de mucha antigüedad. Baltasar de Echave y otros autores hablan de dos casas de A. en la citada villa de Zumárraga, una llamada de arriba y otra de abajo, pero lo cierto es que desde muy antiguo son ambas una sola y que la de abajo fué desmembrada de la de arriba. Al menos consta por testimonio de Antonio de Garicosa, Escribano de Villarreal de Urrechu, que hasta el 31 de Diciembre de 1688 se conservó siempre dicha casa en un solo poseedor y que pasó de padres a hijos sin dividirse entre éstos y sin haber salido del apellido de la familia. Por el contrario, algunos de los individuos que salieron de ella y poseyeron otras casas y mayorazgos, conservaron siempre el apellido A., uniéndolo al del mayorazgo que tenían, como A.-Iburreta, A.-Izaga y otros que se gloriaron siempre de descender de la casa de A. de arriba de Zumárraga. Resulta tambíen de testamentos, contratos de matrimonio y partidas de libros parroquiales, que en 1777 era Juan de A. (que hizo información de nobleza), hijo de Juan de A. y nieto de Juan de A. y así hasta el cuarto grado, pues todos sus ascendientes llevaban el nombre de Juan. ...
