La famiglia, nel 1600, si trasferì in terra di Capodimonte sul lago di Bolsena, nel Ducato di Castro, sotto i Farnese. Capostitpite del ramo romano è Francesco, cremonese, che fece acquisto di tenute. In seguito la fam. si trasferisce nella vicina città Pontificia di Viterbo, e poi a Roma. Numerosi coprirono la carica di capitani delle Farnesiane milizie e di quelle degli Stati della Chiesa. Figura fulgida di questa famiglia fu il Cardinale Vincenzo, valoroso canonista, diplomatico di vaglia, uditore nel 1802 in Portogallo, nunzio in Svizzera, eppoi in Francia, presso i Re Luigi XVIII e Carlo X. Gli fu conferita la dignità suprema della S.Porpora nel 1826. Nel 1828 successe al cardinale Agostino Rivarola nel governo della Legazione di Ravenna.
