Nobility crown AndayaTuvo este linaje casa solar en la villa de Valmaseda, provincia de Vizcaya. Juan Mendoza, dice que fué su progenitor el Barón de Andaya, caballero francés que gozó de grandes dignidades y que tomó el cognomen de A. de una tierra de este nombre que tuvo en señorío. Descendientes suyos fueron: Juan de A; y Santiago de A., ambos hijos de la casa solar de Valmaseda. El primero, Juan de A., fué padre de Mateo de A., natural de Valmaseda, que tuvo por hijas a Juana de A., que casó con su primo hermano Francisco de A. y Sotomayor, hijo de Santiago de A. ya citado; y Casilda de Andaya, que contrajo matrimonio con Gregorio Martínez, naciendo de esta unión Juana Manuela Martínez A. Santiago de A., hermano del Juan de A. ya citado, pasó a Andalucía e hizo asiento en Antequera (Málaga). Fué Regidor de esa ciudad y tuvo los siguientes hijos: Juan Ignacio de A., Obispo de Ciudad Rodrigo. Francisco de A. Sotomayor, Alférez de Loja, que casó, como ya se dijo, con su prima hermana Juana de A; y José de A. Sotomayor, que fué padre de Juan Manuel de A., vecino de Loja. A petición de los citados hermanos Juan y Santiago de A. y de otro llamado Agustín de A., se hizo probanza de la nobleza de este apellido en la villa de Valmaseda. Esa probanza está fechada, en el lugar de Villanueva de Mena, del Valle de Mena y partido judicial de Villarcayo (Burgos), en 27 de Abril de 1599. ...
