Dice Gracia Dei que los de este apellido son de Sousa (Portugal), y que vinieron a España, estableciéndose en Orense, en Mondoñedo y en la provincia de La Coruña. Pero es más cierto, y asi lo atestigua Felipe de la Gándara, que el linaje A. es gallego, y que su primitivo solar radicó en el territorio de Bargantiños, de la provincia de la Coruña, que antiguamente formaba una jurisdicción con quince feligresías. A ese solar se le llamó también El Castro de Asperón, dimanando de él las casas de A. que se fundaron en la parroquia de Sofán y en la de Goyanes, ambas del partido judicial de Carballo y pertenecientes al citado territorio de Bergantiños. Los A. de Portugal proceden de los de Galicia, pues caballeros gallegos de este linaje pasaron a aquel reino para servir al Monarca lusitano Don Pedro I. Uno de esos caballeros fué Juan de A., Señor del primitivo solar de A. en tierra de Bergantiños. Al entrar en Portugal al servicio del mencionado Rey Don Pedro, éste le dió tres villas y le hizo Conde de Ouren. Tuvo, según cuentan las crónicas, mucha familiaridad con la Reina Doña Leonor, mujer del Rey Don Fernando de Portugal, y con tal motivo, y aun cuando algunos opinan que injustamente, fué dicha Reina muy murmurada. Esto fué causa de que el Rey portugués Don Juan I, hijo natural del Rey Don Pedro y sucesor de su hermano Don Fernando, mandase matar a dicho D. Juan A., feneciendo su Estado. ...
