Este antiguo y noble apellido tiene, sus orígenes en el de Arzu el cual se transformó debido a malas transcripciones, diferente pronunciación, lenitivos y contracciones, usándose indistintamente Arzuza y Arzu, como uno solo. Tiene su casa casa solar en Guipúzcoa, en un promontorio que llaman de Alcareso, a un cuarto de legua de la ciudad de Fuenterrabía. Dentro de la misma ciudad, en la calle de Ubilla, hay otra casa que se supone dimanada de la primera, que es una de las más antiguas, ilustres y pobladores de calidad conocida de nobles hijosdalgo, notorios de sangre y de Cabo de Arméria. El 24 de Marzo de 1620, el Rey de armas de Felipe III, D. Diego de Urbina, llamado Castilla, expidió una certificación sobre las armas del linaje Arzuza, haciendo una larga disquisición histórica. Hallándose presos en el castillo de Játiva los Infantes de la Cerda Don Alonso y Don Fernando, el Rey de Francia, Felipe III, tío carnal de los cautivos, envió sus embajadores al Rey de Castilla Sancho IV el Bravo, invitándole a una conferencia en Bayona, de Francia, para estudiar la forma de libertar a los citados Infantes del ominoso yugo a que los había sometido el Rey de Aragón. Se celebró, en efecto, la conferencia en Bayona, pero como no llegaron ambos Monarcas a un acuerdo, el Rey Sancho el Bravo de Castilla se retiró a San Sebastián. Enojado el Rey de Francia Felipe III, por el negativo resultado de sus gestiones, organizó un ejército y con él atravesó la frontera del Bidasoa y puso cerco a la ciudad de Fuenterrabía. El Rey de Castilla, Sancho el Bravo, que se hallaba en San Sebastián, al tener noticia de la provocación del Rey de Francia, se dispuso a rechazarla y de nuevo se dirigió hacia Fuenterrabía. A finales del siglo XIX fueron muchos los hombres y mujeres que portando el apellido Arzuza con origen en Guipúzcoa, cruzaron el Atlántico, huyendo de la crisis de final de siglo, que acometía a Europa a igual durante el transcurso de la 2da Guerra Mundial.
