Apellido extremeño, descendiente del Rey de Asturias, don Ordoño II. Don Miguel fue creado Marqués de Coto Real en 15 de abril de 1790. Don José Vicente Figueroa y Tabares fue creado Conde de Puerto Hermoso en 13 de diciembre de 1799. Desde 1950, Don Fernando de Soto y Carvajal, VII Conde, casado con Doña María de las Mercedes Falcó v Anchorena. El nombre está unido a la Conquista y geografía de Tenerife. Existe un barranco denominado "Badajoz", al cual dió nombre el conquistador de Tenerife Juan, que luego emparentó con la familia Marrero, estableciéndose tras la conquista en la villa de Güimar. Juan fue nombrado jurado en la Isla de Tenerife, en octubre de 1497, cargo que desempeñó hasta 1500. En los años 1512 y 1513 fue Alcaide de la cárcel, nombrado en la Ciundad de La Laguna, y falleció el años 1528.
