Antica ed assai nobile famiglia italiana, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Europa e del mondo. Come riportato dal celebre genealogista italiano Giovan Battista di Crollalanza nel suo "Il Dizionario storico-blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane estinte e fiorenti", pubblicato a Pisa nel 1886 in tre volumi, questa casata è originaria della città di Roma da donde poi si portò in Piemonte anteriormente al XV secolo.
