Il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza riporta la blasonatura di questa famiglia nei volumi del suo Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane. Il cognome Beccanugi appare dopo il 1290, al posto di Ammannati: i due cognomi si trovano anche uniti. In qualche esemplare dello stemma n.1, più che un leopardo illeonito si potrebbe riconoscere una pantera rampante. La famiglia si estinse nel XVI secolo; nel 1734 Bastiano e Benedetto Ammannati ottennero dal Magistrato supremo il riconoscimento della discendenza dall'antica famiglia, con la possibilità di assumere i due cognomi. In seguito i loro discendenti Ammannato e Aldobrandino Beccanugi Ammannati furono ammessi alla nobiltà fiorentina nel 1805 e al patriziato nel 1807, presentando lo stemma n.2°. ...
