Famille d'Annonay où elle exerça très anciennement le négoce. Connue depuis Jean qui prit ce nom d'une terre près Annonay, fief qu'il obtint en 1252 de Grégoire VII, dauphin de Viennois. Anoblie par Philippe de Valois, le 30 avril 1347, en la personne d'Albert seigneur de Jarnieu, lequel testa le 20 avril 1365 et fut l'auteur de trois branches: 1° celle des seigneurs de Montpentier, maintenue en Auvergne le 1 décembre 1667; 2° celle des seigneurs du Mazel près Tence, maintenue dans le diocèse du Puy, le 24 décembre 1668; 3° celle des seigneurs de Charlieu près Annonay, maintenue en Vivarais, le 22 mars 1670. Un chanoine-comte de Brioude (1694);plusieurs chevaliers de St-Jean de Jérusalem. Laurent, chevalier de Malte, commandant du fort St-Elme lors du siège de Malte (1565), se signala par son énergique résistance. Obligé de capituler et fait prisonnier par les Turcs, il fut par eux écorché vif. Plusieurs prieurs de tence; des baillis de Tournon et d'Annonay (1518-1565); un gentilhomme ordinaire de la chambre du roi (1580); un enseigne d'une compagnie de cinquante lances (1565); une page de la grande écurie du roi (1704). ...
