Este linaje es originario de la villa de Benavente (cuyo nombre tomó), de la provincia de Zamora. Sus ramas se extendieron por León, Castilla la Vieja y Castilla la Nueva. En principios del siglo XV florecía ya la casa de la villa de B., de la que es originaria María de B., que casó con Miguel de Segura Ugarte, descendiente por línea recta de varón de la casa y solar de Ugarte, sita en la jurisdicción de la villa de Segura (Guipúzcoa), del que tuvo por hijo y sucesor a Juan de B. Ugarte, que tomó en primer lugar el apellido de la madre, se trasladó a Carabaña (Madrid) y contrajo matrimonio con doña Valentina de Alarcón, naciendo de este enlace: Gaspar de B. Ugarte, que sigue; Cristóbal de B. Ugarte, y Alonso de B. Ugarte, vecino de Carabaña en 1530. El primogénito, Gaspar de B. Ugarte, casó con doña Ana de Peñalosa y vivieron en Carabaña (Madrid). Fueron padres de Gaspar de B. Peñalosa, vecino de Carabaña, que ganó ejecutoria de nobleza, dada en Valladolid el 3 de Diciembre de 1593. Cristóbal de B. Ugarte (hijo segundo de Juan de B. Ugarte y de doña Valentina de Alarcón), casó con doña María Dávila Pacheco, en la que procreó a Gabriel de B. Ugarte, que contrajo matrimonio con doña María Hernández Tejero, y fueron padres de Gabriel de B. Tejero, vecino de Huesca, del partido judicial de Torrijos (Toledo), y Regidor de Ocaña, en la misma provincia, y Gregorio de B. Ugarte y Tejero, vecino de Ocaña y Yepes (Toledo). Otra casa muy antigua. Apellido originario de Cataluña. En la provincia de Lérida hay dos villas denominadas B., cuyo nombre debe estar relacionado con el del linaje. Por lo menos los B. fueron señores de esas villas, según lo afirma don Pedro Vitales.
