Originaria di Vicenza, si trapiantò in Castelfranco verso il 1400. Diede un provveditore a questo castello quando era assediato dalle genti imperiali della Lega di Cambrai. (Estinta nel XVIII secolo). Altro ramo. Secondo il Villabianca famiglia di Messina , ove fiorirono un Giuseppe, valente giurista; il barone Emanuele giudice della R. Gran Corte e Ministro della R. Azienda di Messina; e Giacomo Abate di S. Elia de Ambula nel 1790. Altro ramo. Originari da Messina, ove ebbero baronie e si imparentarono con la potentissima famiglia De Rabo. Il ramo dei B. o Battaroli di Vicenza si stabilì a Castelfranco intorno il 1400 e difese il castello all'epoca della Lega di Cambrai. Firenze diede nel 1689 i natali al dotto prelato Giovanni Gaetano, autore di molte e pregiate opere. Visse a Chioggia l'agronomo Giovanni (1758-1814) illustre scienzato di eletti sentimenti. Pure in quell'antica città visse l'abate Angelo, numismatico insigne che possedeva il più ricco medagliere d'Italia. A Venezia nel secolo XVIII la famiglia aveva tomba propria nelle chiese di S. Biagio di Castello e a S. M. M. Domini. Nella chiesa di S. M. Gloriosa dei Frari una lapide del 1708 ricorda le virtù di Giuseppe cittadino veneto. Nel 23 giugno 1797 Girolamo fu prosciolto dall'accusa di avere ucciso due Granatieri francesi nel Bastion di San Luca. Attualmente la famiglia annovera il letterato Ercole, nato a Rivarno nel 1848: la scrittrice fiorentina di novelle B.-Giotti Eugenia, distinta pianista e versata nella musica: l'avv. Ezio noto penalista residente a Venezia, ed i suoi fratelli prof. Amerigo, e l'avv. Virgilio. ...
