Antiga família, portuguesa que, segundo certos genealogistas, proviria de algum parente de Godofredo de Bouillon, ou B. ou Bulhões, que porventura tivesse vindo auxiliar D. Afonso Henriques na conquista do Reino. O mais antigo que se encotra em Portugal é Vicente Martins de B., cujo pai vedia ser Martim, como indica a patronímico. Viveu no reinado de D. Afonso Henriques e, talvez, ainda no tempo do Conde D. Henrique. A Sé de Lisboa fizia-lhe aniversário a 14 das calendas de Fevereiro, para o que seu filho Martim de B. Legou as suas casas junto de S. Mamede. Este Martim de B., viveu em Lisboa, próximo de Sé, no sítio, onde actualmente se encontra a igreja de Santo António. Recebeu-se com D. Teresa Taveira, filha e Paio Soares Romeu, o postrimeiro, e de D. Sancha Henriques de Portocarreiro. D. Teresa foi sepultada na igreja velha de S. Vicente e depois trasladada para a de Santo António, onde tinha epitáfio dizendo que nascera na mesma casa que seu glorioso filho. Parece que as casas de seu marido eram as de S. Mamede, que ele deixou para aniversários pelas almas de seu pai e sua. Martim de B. e sua mulher tiveram diversos filhos, um dos quais, Fernando Martins de B., doi Santo António de Lisboa ou de Pádua. Outra filha de Martim de B. e de D. Teresa Taveira é, também, digna de menção especial: D. Maria Martins Taveira, que foi cónega regrante no mosteiro de S. Miguel das Donas, em Lisboa, e morreu em cheiro de santidade. ...
