Linaje originario de Cataluña y extendido por el reino de Valencia desde su conquista. Antes de ésta eran ya en Cataluña los B. señores del lugar de Pauls, del partido judicial de Tortosa (Tarragona). Jaime B., señor de Pauls, pasó a las guerras de Valencia con dos hermanos suyos (uno de ellos llamado Juan), sirviendo a su costa al rey don Jaime I de Aragón. Dos de esos hermanos, Jaime y Juan B., fueron los primeros que, con mucha caballería, talaron el lugar de Polpis (hoy Polpia) y los pueblos de Canet y Tirig, para facilitar el sitio de Burriana. El rey don Jaime I de Aragón premió sus servicios dándoles en señorío las villas de Albocácer y de Tirig, otorgándoles otras mercedes. El hermano mayor, Jaime B., se estableció y creó casa en Tortosa, dejando descendientes en dicha ciudad que continuaron su apellido hasta los tiempos modernos. El segundo Juan B. fundó solar en Morella (Castellón), y sus sucesores entroncaron con la familia Despuig. El tercer hermano se halló en la conquista de Játiva, siendo en ella heredado por el rey don Jaime I, y dejando también allí sucesores. De la casa de Morella, y descendientes de su fundador, Juan B., fue Miguel de B. y de Despuig, de quien procedieron Ramón de B., que sigue, y Luis de B., doctor en ambos derechos.
