Dal Cartario Alessandrino del Gasparolo un Calvus Buterius appare, come teste, in atto del 12 giugno 1188 relativo alla vendita di un manso situato tra Marengo e Tortona; il 29 agosto 1203 Anselmo Buterius sottoscrive come teste l'atto di conciliazione del comune di Alessandria col Marchese Guglielmo di Monferrato, ed il 18 settembre dello stesso anno è teste nell'atto d'investitura del feudo di Sezzé a favore del comune di Alessandria.
