Il bâtit en 1091 le château de Montfort, dont il prit le nom, et mourut à la croisade de 1096; Raoul II son fils, défendit en 1117 le château de Breteuil contre toutes les forces de la France; Raoul V suivit Philippe le Hardi en Espagne en 1274 et laissa de Julienne de Tournemine: Geoffroi, qui a continué les seigneurs de Montfort et de Gaël; Geoffroi le jeune, auteur des seigneurs de la Rivière; Raoul VI, tué au siège de la Roche-Derrien en 1347; Guy, évêque de Saint-Brieuc, mort en 1359; Guillaume, évêque de Saint-Malo, et cardinal du titre de Sainte-Anastasie, mort en 1432; Raoul VII, prisonnier à la bataille d'Auray en 1364, père de Raoul VIII, marié vers 1379 à Jeanne, dame de Kergorlay; Jean, fils des précédents, en épousant en 1404 Anne, dame de Laval et de Vitré, prit pour lui et ses descendants les nom et armes de Laval; André son fils, amiral et maréchal de France en 1439, mort en 1486. La branche aînée fondue en 1518 dans Rieux, d'où la seigneurie de Montfort a appartenu successivement aux Goligny et aux la Trémoille. ...
