El origen del apellido Cantaredo, le tenemos en Perpiñan y Cataluña con su forma inicial de Canter, derivando sus ramas en formas diferentes, según se extendÍan por tierras de España y Francia, siendo Cantaredo una de ellas, que se asento en Castilla, en el solar en el Valle de Tobalina, partido judicial de Villarcayo (Burgos), no muy lejos de la antigua ciudad de Frías, que hoy pertenece al partido judicial de Briviesca. Posiblemente, como sucede en muchos apellidos, sea derivado del oficio o profesión que ejercÍa su titular en la antigüedad. En la villa de Guriezo, del partido judicial de Castro-Urdiales, hubo una casa de este apellido, a la que perteneció: Juan C., natural de Guriezo, que contrajo matrimonio con doña María Amallo y Pico, de igual naturaleza, y fueron padres de Juan C. Amallo, natural de Guriezo, que casó con doña Clara González, natural de Aldea Cueva, del Ayuntamiento de Carranza y partido judicial de Valmaseda (Vizcaya), y procrearon a Andrés C., natural de Aldea Cueva, esposo de doña María de San Vicente, natural de Belgañón, en quien tuvo a Manuel C. de San Vicente, natural de Madrid y caballero de la Orden de Carlos III, en la que ingresó el 27 de Febrero de 1834. En la villa de La Ventosa, del partido judicial de Cuenca, radicó otra casa de C., de la que fue: Juan C. de la Peña, que casó con doña María Torrecilla, de la misma naturaleza, y fueron padres de Pedro C. Torrecilla, esposo de doña María de Alcocer, de igual naturaleza, y ambos padres de Manuel C. Alcocer, natural de La Ventosa, que contrajo matrimonio con doña Ana de la Cueva, natural de la misma villa, y procrearon a Bernardo C. y de la Cueva Alcocer, caballero de Carlos III con fecha 2 de Junio de 1784. En Canarias se conoce desde principios del siglo XIX, en que arribara a Las Palmas un marino de este nombre. Descendiente del mismo fue Ignacio C. Alfonso, que contrajo matrimonio con Doña María Arozena Grondona, de la ilustre familia Arozena de Santa ...
