Nobility crown CarneiroVárias origens se dão aos Carneiros; uns fazem-nos derivas dos Condes de Moutos, de França; outros que procedem de D. Lourenço Anes Carnes, de cujo apelido se teria derivada o de C.; outros ainda, que seriam de Espanha, pois já no século XII existia lá o apelido. Havia, porém, a serra de C., designação antiga de uma serra perto do Porto, e uma freguesia do mesmo nome, no antigo concelho de Gestaçô. O indivíduo mais antigo que se conhece com o apelido, mais provàvelmente oriundo de alcunha, é Pedro C., senhor da terras de Valdevez no tempo do Conde D. Henrique, de quem procedeu a família. De Vila do Conde: ramo da família dos C. do Porto, descendente de Pedro C., vassalo do Rei D. João I, que lhe doou a quinta de Tresgude, em Gaia, a 3.5.1385, vereador da cidade do Porto em 1380, e de sua mulher Catarina Afonso. Seu bisneto, por legítima varonia, Gomes C. (filho de Gil C., cavaleiro fidalgo da Casa do Rei D. Afonso V, e de sua mulher Leonor Anes) passou a Vila do Conde na segunda metado do séc. XV, e deste e de sua mulher foi tetraneto João C. Gaio, fidalgo da C. R., procurador por Vila do Conde às Cortes de 1641, que casou, a 17.7.1619, com sua prima D. Francisca C., pais de D. Catarina C., sucessora, casada com Domingos Álvares da Costa, licenciado em Leis pela U. C., e sr. da casa e morgado do Outerio, freg. de Burgães, Santo Tirso. Deste casal foi bisneto e sucessor, por legítima varonia, José C. da Costa de Magalhães Brandão, sr. das casas da Costa ou da Cadeia Velha. ...
