Las noticias que se tienen de este ilustre y noble apellido son muy confusas. Los genealogistas españoles aseguran que se estima como cierto que procede de Francia, de dos hermanos franceses, Guillén y Bartolome de Casaus que vinieron a tierras de Limoges, de donde Don Guillén era Vizoconde a servir a Don Fernando III "El Santo" y le ayudarán en el sitio y conquista de Sevilla, por lo que el citado monarca, en agradecimiento, los heredó en dicha ciudad. Jerónimo Gudiel dice: "Ay memoria hoy día de don Guillen en su privilegio que Sevilla tiene, en el que el Rey don Alonso X le da por términos a Morón, Cazalla, Ossuna y las dos Islas de Cator y Captiel a donde confirma don Guillén, Vizconde de Limoges". Agrega Gudiel, coincidiendo con sus manifestaciones a igual manera, las de otros tratadistas, que el apellido Casaus se corrompió el abuso y la poca noticia que se tenía de los linajes extranjeros (recordemos que nuestros antepasados no tenían dominio de muchas lenguas), deformando así en el de las Casas y que así se apellidaron los de esta familia en Sevilla y otras poblaciones durante bastantes años. En antiguos documentos aparece también claramenre que Casaus, Casas y Las Casas, son modalidades de un mismo linaje. En cataluña y en las Islas Baleares radicaron desde muy antiguo otras familias de este linaje. En la Conquista de Mallorca - dice Bover - se halló uno de este linaje y fue heredado en Inca con cinco yugadas de Tierra. En esta isla encontamos señas de ilustres Casas, Francisco Casas, letrado Mallorquín en baile general en 1356 y cuando las guerras de Cerdeña del año 1393, otro de Baleares, fue capitán de una galera. Las Casas de Canarias usan como armas: En campo de oro, cinco roques de ajedréz de gules, puestos en sotuer; bordura de azur con ocho cabezas de áquila degolladas. Los de Cataluña usan: de Plata, cinco roques de sable y la bordura de oro, con ocho cabezas ...
