El más antiguo ascendiente de los C., del que hacen alusión las crónicas, era natural de Bilbao, de donde pasó a Aragón, hallándose en el sitio y toma de Huesca en el año de 1096 y quedando allí heredado con el señorío de varias tierras y de la torre de C., solar de sus descendientes. Uno de éstos, y quizá el más inmediato del aludido guerrero fue Ramón del C., señor de la torre de C., en Huesca, que se puso al servicio del rey don Jaime I de Aragón y pasó con él a la conquista del reino de Valencia, según consta en documentos del archivo de San Juan de la Peña. El citado monarca pagó sus servicios dándole en heredamiento los lugares de Catí y Beniarjó, unas casas cerca de las puertas Ferrizas, de Valencia, el censo enfitéutico de todas la tierras y casas que había desde la puerta de la Boatella hasta la casa de San Vicente mártir y otras.
