La famiglia è originaria di Chiusi, dove occupava rango distinto e godeva di ragguardevole patrimonio. Nel 1684 il dottore Niccolò sposò Porzia, ultima di questa famiglia, che nel 1658 era stata riconosciuta nobile senese dal Collegio di balia di quella città.
