Antiguo apellido de Aragón, con casa solar en Zaragoza y extendido por Cataluña y Baleares. Léese que el fundador de este linaje fue un hidalgo guipuzcoano llamado Luis de Elisalte, que pasó a vivir a Zaragoza e hizo allí su asiento. La causa que motivó su cambio de apellido, según la explican algunos autores, tiene todos los caracteres de una fábula, que no queremos recoger. Lo cierto es que la casa de este linaje en Zaragoza y sus ramas de Aragón, Cataluña y Baleares florecían ya en principios del siglo XV. El caballero aragonés llamado Sancho de la C., fue el que llevó el apellido al reino de Mallorca en fines del siglo XVI, y fue descendiente suyo Leonardo de la C., mallorquín muy distinguido, que en 1420, siendo secretario del rey don Alonso V de Aragón fue enviado a Cerdeña para conferenciar con el marqués de Oristañy sobre negocios de importancia. Martín de la C. y Moig, era caballero de Santiago en 1463, y pasó con una galera suya a la armada capitaneada por Francisco Burgues, consiguiendo expulsar a los catalanes de Menorca. Continuó después sus servicios en las costas de Cataluña, y obtuvo por ellos en 1466 privilegio perpetuo de caballero. En 1506 acompañó al rey Fernando a Nápoles, y más tarde, en la azarosa época de los comuneros, y siendo ya muy viejo, prestó su caudal para atender a las graves urgencias de la patria. ...
