Nobility crown CernachesTem este família a mesma origem que a dos Pinheiros, provindo de João Esteves e de sua mulher Maria Rodrigues, como alegam uns autores; ou da dos Vieiras, conforme outros, que a fazem descender de Fernão Álvares Vieira, criado de D. João I, a quem acompanhou quando este matou o Conde João Fernandes Andeiro, e de uma mulher de C., junto de Coimbra, a qual tinha bom dote; ou, ainda, de Fernão Álvares, natural de Coimbra, servidor do Mestre de Avis, e de sua mulher, Maria Vieira, natural de C.. Parece, porém, que os Cernaches procedem daquele João Esteves e da sua referida mulher. João Esteves era de ilustre ascendência, pois vinha dos de Penela, linhagem entroncada nas melhores da Península, e estava pròximamente aparentado com o Condestável D. Nuno Álvares Pereira por ser filho de uma sua irmã. De casamento de João Esteves com Maria Rodrigues nasceram: Estêvão Anes, que se recebeu com Grácia Martins, senhora de boa linhagem, com geração, da qual provêm os Pinheiros; D. Aldonça Anes, mulher de Fernão Gonçalves Cogominho, conforme dizem alguns autores, o que não é possível, porquanto este viveu no reinado de D. Afonso IV, de quem foi meirinho-mor; e Álvaro Anes, que pelo seu casamento, tomou o apelido de C.. Timbre: um leão de vermelho, com uma vieria de prata na espádua. ...
