Nobility crown ChilCorresponde este apellido a un ilustre canario que, con sus trabajos e investigaciones, contribuyó al adelanto cultural de las islas. Nos referimos a Don Gregorio C., fundador del Museo Canario de Las Palmas. Don Gregorio Taumaturgo María de los Dolores C. y Naranjo, nació en Telde el 13 de marzo de 1831. Era hijo de Don Juan C. Morales y de Doña Rosalía Naranjo Cubas; nieto paterno de Don Antonio Miguel C. García Ortega y de Doña Juana Morales Suárez, y materno de Don Salvador Naranjo González de Doña Ana Rosalía de Cubas Ortega. Le enseñó las primeras letras su padre, que era maestro y su tío le inculcó el gusto por los clásicos latinos y griegos, a cuyo estudio se aficionó con gran aprovechamiento. Trasladóse a Francia, doctorándose en Medicina el año 1859 en París, cuyo título tuvo que revalidar en la Facultad de Medicina de Cádiz, para poder dedicarse al ejercicio de la Medicina en Las Palmas. Casó en primeras nupcias, cuando tenía treina y un años, con Doña Alejandra Jaques Merino, que era viuda, hija de Don Juan Gregorio Jaques de Mesa y Pacheco Solís, (Coronel de Milicias del Regimiento de Guía) y de Doñá Estébana Merino y Ruiz de Quesada, naturales de Las Palmas y de Guía, respectivamente. De este matrimonio nació una niña que falleció de corta edad. Nueve años después de morir Doña Alejandra, volvió a contraer matrimono Don Gregorio, con la señorita Rosenda Isabel Amalia Suárez Tascón, hija de Don Vicente Suárez Naranjo y de Doña María Maximiana Tascón Perdomo. ...
