Heráldica da família: Cibien
Ancient family from Veneto, with residence in the area of Belluno, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. The origin of this last name should be sought in a dialect form of the name of the village of Cibiana di Cadore, a place name derived from "ager cipianum", that is the name of a landed property of the Roman era referred to a "Cipius" or "Cepius". Anyway, according to what has been handed down, an Antonio, soldier of fortune serving the Serenissima Republic of Venice, at the end of the sixteenth century, amassed huge fortunes... Continuaand his sons obtained the Patriciate, for the services rendered to the country and thanks to the usual offer of "a hundred thousand" ducats. Moreover, this family, in all ages, always stands out, thanks to the prominent figures, which gave birth, in the public service, in the liberal and ecclesiastical professions and in the military service. Among these, without undervalue the omitted, we would like to mention: Andrea, doctor in "utroque jure", flourishing in 1574; Tommaso theologian and Reader of Philosophy at various universities in the Kingdom, living in 1582, in Venice; Celestino, notary in Belluno, living in 1583; Andrea, soldier of fortune to the service of the Serenissima, living in 1599; Giampiero and Lodovico, councillors in Belluno, living in 1632; Niccolò and Tommaso, brothers, in art medical experts, residents in Belluno, in 1645; Giovanni notary in Milan, flourishing in the first half of the seventeenth century; Antonio, councillor of the Venetian Senate, living in Belluno, in 1666; Father Nicola, theologian and apostolic commissioner, flourishing in Belluno, in 1678; Father Agostino, of the Order of Preachers, flourishing in 1702; Giampiero, ambassador of the the Venetian Senate, at various Italian and European courts, living in 1703; Tommaso notary in Milan, living in 1721; Father Louis, of the Order of Preachers, living in Conegliano, in 1785; Antonio Maria, counsellor in Belluno, living in 1816; Daniel, patriot and military man, who was at the service of Pietro Fortunato Calvi, during the Risorgimento. Family names so old, without any doubt, honour not only families but also the cities that welcomed them; seems to be, in fact, very worthy the living members of this family which, with much decorum, carry this noble surname, which has had several illustrious members.
