De Cataluña, de donde se extendió por Aragón y Valencia. El primer caballero de este linaje de quien se tiene noticia es Berenguer de C., catalán, que se crió en el palacio del rey don Jaime II de Aragón y pasó a Valencia en el año de 1312, desempeñando los cargos de escribano de ración de maestro racional en toda la Corona. Cuando en el año de 1354 al rey don Pedro IV de Aragón marchó a la isla de Cerdeña, dejó encargado del gobierno de Valencia a dicho Berenguer C. En 1367, cuando los de la Unión se levantaron contra el monarca aragonés, Berenguer de C. siguió el partido del rey. Este caballero poseyó los señoríos de Albalat, Benimamet y de parte de Mislata. En el año de 1351 intervino en la concordia de los reyes Pedro IV de Aragón y Pedro I de Castilla. Por su buen talento y altas prendas morales formó parte del Consejo del rey. Murió en 1375, y le sucedió en los señoríos su hijo Bernardo de C. Mosén Jaime Febrer cita a Benito de C., hijo de otro Berenguer C., que en la guerra de Mallorca armó a su costa dos buques, por lo que el rey don Pedro III de Aragón nombró a su hijo Benito paje suyo y ricohombre de Valencia. Otro caballero, llamado Manuel de C., estuvo casado en Valencia con doña Leonor de Valterra, pero murió sin dejar hijos, habiendo nombrado heredero de sus bienes a Francisco Aguilón de Romeu. Miguel de Salazar dice que en la ciudad de Sagunto (Valencia) moró otra rama de este linaje, que procedía de Zaragoza. ...
