Alliée en Bretagne aux d'Acigné, à la maison de Beaumanoir, de Ruellan, de Bruc et de la Forest d'Armaillé, elle a produit plusieurs personnages remarquable dans la carrière des armes. On signale dans le nombre: quatre maréchaux de France de 1550 à 1768; des grands pannetiers, grands fauconniers et grands-maîtres de l'artillerie de France; un lieutenant-général au gouvernement de Bretagne en 1645; un évêque de Coutances, dit le cardinal de Meudon, mort en 1548; un abbé de Saint-Melaine en 1560, évêque de Coutances, mort en 1587; un abbé de Bégard en 1614 mort en 1675. A ce nom, on attribue un signe distinctif de noblesse représenté par le blason que l'on reproduit ci-dessous et qui confirme aussi à travers ses emblêmes, au point de vue historique et héraldique, l'assurance d'une valeur remarquable.
