On trouve: Pierre, chevalier croisé (1219); Châtard (1284); Pierre, damoiseau, seigneur du dit lieu près Thiers (1305). Marguerite, fille de Pierre, sous la tutelle de ses oncles Hugues et Amblard (1328), épousa avec substitution de nom et d'armes avant 1335, Perrot Bedoc, damoiseau, seigneur du Croc qui en rendit hommage en 1335. Albert, dit Bedoc, seigneur du Croc, marié à Marguerite du Mas, fut le père de Philibert du Croc (1430-1460), inscrit dans l'armorial de Guillaume Revel. Leur postérité fut maintenue le 14 décembre 1666, sur preuves remontant à 1450. Deux branches principales: celles des seigneurs du Fieu, barons de Brunard, marquis de St-Polgues (en Forez); et celle des seigneurs du Mas, d'Auteyrat (en Auvergne) divisée en deux rameaux: 1° comtes du Croc de Chabannes, éteints en 1859; 2° seigneurs de Bressollières, comtes de Brassac et barons de Lubières, éteints au XIXème siècle au chateau de Brassac, dans les d'Apchier et les Ruynard de Brimont. Viennent ensuite: des chanoines-comtes de Brioude; plusieurs commandeurs de Malte depuis 1502; un gouverneur de la vicomté de Valerne (1524); un ambassadeur des rois Charles IX et Henri III en Écosse (1565-1572): Philibert, seigneur du Fieu; deux gentilhommes de la chambre; des chevaliers des ordres du roi, une abbesse de Clavas; des officiers distingués et chevaliers de St-Louis; un colonel de cavalerie, etc. Très belles alliances. Convoquée à l'Assemblée de la noblesse d'Auvergne (1789) et inscrite sur la liste des émigrés de la Hte-Loire. ...
