Noble y antiguo linaje, con casa solar en la villa de Valverde de Leganés, del partido judicial de Llerena (Badajoz). Otra familia del mismo apellido moró en la ciudad de Jumilla, del partido judicial de Yecla (Murcia). La casa de la villa de Valverde de Leganés entroncó con la muy ilustre de Nogales y de este entronque procedió Manuel María de Nogales D. y Ortiz, bautizado en la citada villa el 4 de Marzo de 1752. En 1759, y por virtud de auto de la Justicia Real de la ciudad de Badajoz, se dió posesión judicial a Juan Calderón y Manzanal, caballero del hábito de San Juan y Regidor de Badajoz, como apoderado de doña Isabel Ortiz y Grande de Ávila, madre del citado Manuel María de Nogales D. y Ortiz, del Mayorazgo de la casa de Nogales, que había venido a recaer en el citado caballero. pasaron a las diligencias por testimonio de Agustín de Torres, Escribano de número. Dicho Manuel María fué Regidor perpetuo, por el estado noble, de la villa de Valverde de Leganés y probó su hidalguía en una certificación testifical y documental, aprobada por Vicente Sánchez Muñoz, Alcalde mayor y Corregidor mayor interino de Badajoz, previo informe del Procurador Síndico general Alejandro Francisco de Silva, y ante el Escribano del Ayuntamiento Manuel Sotero Fernández, con fecha 26 de Agosto de 1793. Contrajo matrimonio con doña Margarita González Pérez de Hita, bautizada en Valverde de Leganés el 1º de Abril de 1744 y fueron padres de Miguel Antonio de Nogales D. Otra casa muy antigua. Procede de Extremadura, pero una línea moró en la villa de Bilbao. Son sus armas: Mantelado: primero, de oro, con una banda de sable; segundo, jaquelado de quince piezas de gules y oro, las de gules, cargadas cada una de cuatro fajas de plata, y tercero, o manteladura, de azur, con un palo de plata, entre ocho calderas de oro, cuatro a cada lado, una sobre otra.
