La famiglia Di Casale è assai antica e nobile, di origine tedesca, trasse il proprio nome da un luogo della montagna presso Cortona detto Casale di cui ebbe la signoria. Un Rinaldo nel 1150 venne ad abitare in Cortona di cui fu fatto cittadino. Da lui derivarono sette principi che col titolo di vicari imperiali dominarono per circa un secolo quella città, e l'ultimo de' quali fu Luigi-Battista, che morì nel 1420 nel Casteluovo di Napoli dopo undici anni di dura prigionia fattagli subire dal re Ladislao il quale si era impadronito di Cortona e l'aveva ceduta alla Repubblica Fiorentina. Con lui si spense questa celebre casa la quale ebbe uomini illustri per ingegno, valore militare e cariche sostenute. Uguccio nel 1258 era capitano del popolo quando Cortona fu presa dagli Aretini, nel 1260 combattè con i Senesi sulle sponde dell'Arbia, e nel 1265 creato da'suoi concittadini podestà della patria. ...
