Antica e nobile famiglia calabrese, originaria di Altilia, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nell'italianizzazione del cognomen latino "Marsicus", con il significato di "marsicano", appartenuto, probabilmente ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. La famiglia, già nel XV secolo, trovavasi in Napoli, alla corte Aragonese. In ogni modo, tal illustre casato, il quale risulta fregiato del titolo baronale sopra Campitelli, possedette, sin dal tardo XVI secolo, i feudi di Lattarico e Regina, tanto che, anche dopo l'eversione della feudalità (legge 2 agosto 1806), i suoi membri continuarono a dimorare a Lattarico, nonostante i loro possedimenti e quindi i loro interessi economici fossero stati drasticamente ridimensionati per effetto di tale legge.
