estinte e fiorenti" of the Italian writer and heraldist Giovan Battista di Crollalanza (19 May 1819 – 8 March 1892), published in Pisa in three volumes between 1886 and 1890. Besides, this family, in all ages, always stands out, thanks to the prominent figures, which gave birth, in the public service, in the liberal and ecclesiastical professions and in the military service. Among these, without undervalue the omitted, we would like to mention: Gerardo, prefect of the Royal Palace under King Ludovico; another Gerardo, knighted by King Alfonso; Benedetto, judge "straticoziale" in Messina; Antonio, mayor of the city of Messina; Ottavio, in the service of Don Giovanni of Austria, then vice-admiral; Antonino, governor of the table in Palermo in 1631; Gregorio judge of the praetorian court of Palermo, in 1667; Luigi, canon and apostolic commissioner, flourishing in 1678; Nicola, doctor in "utroque jure", flourishing in 1701. From the analysis of colors and figures of the coat of arms we can have some information on the family virtues. Red (gules) is the symbol of strength, power, fervent love for God and neighbour; the dog is the symbol for courage vigilance and fidelity; silver (argent) symbolizes purity, tenderness, temperance, mercy, kindness, the desire to win and the talent of eloquence; gold (or) is the most noble metal, a symbol of wealth, power and control. Not many families, even among the oldest, can boast a so valuable noble origin, the descendants of which, quite rightly, can be proud.
