Origine del cognome Dolhen, provenienza: France

Titolo: Nobles - Knights
Araldica della famiglia: Dolhen
Corona nobiliare Dolhen Ancient and noble French family, known as Dol or Dohlen, originally from Bretagne, that has spread, over the centuries, in different European regions. This noble House, in all ages, always stands out, thanks to the prominent figures, which gave birth, in the public service, in the liberal and ecclesiastical professions and in the military service. Among these, without undervalue the omitted, we would like to mention: Jean, crusader knight in 1147; Pierre, landowner in Bretagne, flourishing in 1539; Fr. Paul, canon and apostolic commissioner, flourishing in 1542; Henri Pierre, doctor in "utroque jure", flourishing in Rennes, in 1578; Louis Jean,... Continualandowner in Bretagne, flourishing in 1592; François, doctor in "utroque jure", flourishing in Rennes, in 1613; Pierre Louis, "mestre de camp", flourishing in 1629; Louis, militiaman, flourishing in Rennes, in 1662; Pierre, landowner in Bretagne, in 1671; George Henri, landowner in Bretagne, flourishing in 1698; Leon, distinguished doctor of law, flourishing in Rennes, in 1719. Several knights of the family had been "bannerets", knights with a lordship, powerful enough to maintain at their own expense a company composed of other armed men and at least twenty-five horses. From the analysis of colours and symbols of the coat of arms we can have more information about the family virtues. The tincture red ("gules") is the symbol of strength, power but also fervent love for God and neighbour; Ermine in heraldry is a "fur", or varied tincture, consisting of a white background with a pattern of black shapes representing the winter coat of the stoat. The winter stoat symbolizes purity or virginity. Legend has it that the ermine was so protective of its pure white coat that it would die rather than let it become soiled. This came to represent the noble Christian desire to choose to die rather than be blemished by sin. Family names so old, without any doubt honour not only families but also the cities that welcomed them; seems to be, in fact, very worthy the living members of this family which, with much decorum, carry this noble surname, which has had several illustrious members.
