Procede del lugar de Ecala (cuyo nombre tomó), del Ayuntamiento de Amescoa Baja y partido judicial de Estella (Navarra). Tuvo en dicho lugar de Ecala antiguo palacio, considerado siempre como solar de notorios hijosdalgo. Moraron algunas de sus líneas en la ciudad de Estella y en los lugares de Eulate y Morentin, del partido judicial de Estella. En el año de 1556 comparecieron ante los Tribunales de Navarra Gonzalo López de E. y Baquedano, vecino de Ecala; Pedro López de E. y Baquedano, vecino de Eulate, y Juan López de E. y Baquedano, vecino de Morentin, y expusieron que ellos y sus ascendientes era originarios del palacio de su linaje en el lugar de Ecala, solar de notorios hijosdalgo, por lo que les correspondía se les declarase así, pronunciándose sentencia favorable. En el año de 1785, Francisco Javier de E., por sí y como apoderado de Tomás y de Antonio, residentes en Indias, hijos todos de Pedro de E.; Juan Francisco E. por sí, y Juan Francisco, su hijo, residente en Indias; Andrés de E., vecino de Estella, por sí, y Cirilo Andrés y Javier Antonio, sus hijos, y Juan Antonio de E., también vecinos de Estellas, comparecieron igualmente ante los Tribunales de Navarra, exponiendo que todos eran descendientes legítimos del palacio del lugar de E. y solicitando facultad para gozar de las regalías de los hijosdalgo, lo que se mandó así. ...
