Nobility crown EsparzaTuvo su primitivo solar y palacio este noble linaje en la villa de Esparza (cuyo nombre tomó) del Valle de Salazar y partido judicial de Aoiz, en Navarra, y poseyó desde tiempos muy pretéritos el Señorío de la villa de Escaroz, perteneciente al mismo partido de Aoiz. La gran antigüedad de la familia E. se colige por una donación que refiere el padre Moret, en sus Anales de Navarra, y que dice lleva la fecha del domingo de Carnestolendas de año 1016. Fué hecha esa donación por don García de E., Señor de E. y Escaroz, a San Salvador de Leire; a Sancho, Obispo, y a la comunidad de monjes del monasterio que había fundado en su villa de Escaroz, enclavada, como la de E., en el Valle de Salazar. Otras muy antiguas donaciones que los caballeros E. hicieron a los monasterios e iglesias de Navarra, y la activa parte que tomaron en las empresas guerreras de su tiempo, demuestran que fueron muy nobles y poderosos y que tuvieron en Señorío, no sólo las villas de E. y de Escaroz, sino también el lugar de Besolla y la villa de Sarries, pertenecientes igualmente al partido judicial de Aoiz. Mosén Jaime Febrer cita a Lope de E., descendiente del mencionado solar navarro y Capitán de la Guardia Real, que pasó desde Navarra, con su mujer e hijos, a la conquista de la ciudad de Valencia, sirviendo a don Jaime de Aragón. Otras casas hubo en el lugar de Iturgoyen, del Ayuntamiento de Guesalaz y partido judicial de Estella, y en la villa de Carcastillo, del partido judicial de Tudela. Otra casa muy antigua. Dice Febrer que dicho Lope de E. acreditó su valor en la acción de la Boatella, donde el citado monarca fue herido por una saeta; que interpuso su autoridad para que don Jaime se retirara de la lucha, y que lo llevó a su tienda para curarlo, por lo que el rey le premió dándole el lugar de Benáfer, de la provincia de Castellón, libre de todo pecho.
