Este noble linaje procede del de Haro. Se denominó primero de F.; más tarde, y siguiendo las evoluciones del idioma, de Henestrosa, y también de Hinestrosa, nombre de la villa cuyo señorío disfrutaron, y que antiguamente se llamó Fenestrosa. Fué fundador de la rama, dimanada del gran tronco de los Señores de Vizcaya, Nuño Díaz. Dicho Nuño Díaz fué primer Señor de Fenestrosa, hoy Hinestrosa, villa del partido judicial de Briviesca, en la provincia de Burgos. Contrajo matrimonio con doña Elvira Gil o Elvira Álvarez, descendiente de la Casa de Ansurez, y fueron padres de Rodrigo Núñez, segundo Señor de Fenestrosa, del que se lee que añadió a su escudo de armas los lobos de la Casa de Vizcaya, que le correspondían por su varonía, y las estrellas de la familia Ansurez, que le pertenecían por su madre. Procreó a Martín Ruiz, tercer Señor de Fenestrosa, el cual se halló en 1227 en la conquista de Baeza. Pellicer dice que casó con doña María de Sandoval, naciendo de esa unión Rui Martínez, cuarto Señor de Fenestrosa, que se halló en 1248 en la Conquista de Sevilla, donde tuvo repartimiento. Se unió en matrimonio con doña Elvira Carrillo (hija de Garci Gómez Carrillo, Señor de Mazuelo, y de su mujer doña Elvira Osorio), y fueron padres de Pedro Ruiz de F. y Carrillo, Conquistador de Sevilla y quinto Señor de Fenestrosa. Es el primer caballero de esta casa que aparece apellidado F . Otra casa muy antigua. De la casa solariega de F., en la merindad de Castrojeriz, procedió la familia de este apellido, y son sus armas: Escudo de plata y dos lobos de sable, uno encima de otro; bordura de azur y ocho estrellas de oro. ...
