Noblesse possessionnée en Auvergne qui a donné: Guillaume, damoiseau, éatit vassal du seigneur d'Olliergues (1396). Noble Robert, seigneur du dit lieu, allié en 1423 à Bompare de Flaghac, fille de Bertrand, chevalier et d'Hélène de Jaunac, paraît s'identifier avec Robert qui fit inscrire ses armes dans l'armorial manuscrit de 1450. A la même époque vivait Antoine, capitaine du château de Chantelle en Bourbonnais (1485) et seigneur d'Aulhat près Issoire, par alliance avec l'ancienne maison de ce nom à laquelle il fut substitué. Il eut: Jean, seigneur d'Aulhat (1514), d'où: Annet, seigneur d'Aulhat (1540), marié à Anne du Croc. Leur postérité s'est éteinte en 1618, avec Agnès, dame d'Aulhat, mariée à Gaspard de Besse de la Richardie. Il n'est pas certain que cette branche d'Aulhat eut le même berceau. Elle puvait sortir du château de Fontanet (alias: Fontaney), commune de St-Georges-ès-Allier (Puy-de-Dôme). On trouve aussi sous ce nom des chanoines du Puy. A ce même nom, on attribue un signe distinctif de noblesse représenté par le blason que l'on reproduit ci-dessous et qui confirme aussi à travers ses emblêmes, au point de vue historique et héraldique, l'assurance d'une valeur historique de patrimoine, de noblesse et de valeur. Armes: D'azur, au chef d'or, à un lion de gueules brochant. Les Fontanet d'Aulhat portaient: Ecartelé: aux 1 et 4 d'or au sautoir échiqueté d'argent et de sable (qui est d'Aulhat); aux 2 et 3 d'or, au lion de gueules (qui est Fontanet). ...
