Haute bourgeoisie anoblie au début du XVIIIème siècle, par une charge de secrétaire du Roi, maison et Couronne de France. On trouve cette maison sous les noms de Gailhard ou Gaillard. Jacques Gaillard, consul du Puy (1407-1426-1427), est lieutenant du juge royal du Velay en 1422. Jacques, seigneur de Fossier, reçoit le 20 décembre 1477, la reconnaissance d'un habitant d'Aubépin près Laussonne. Filiation suivie depuis Thomas Gailhard alliée à Catherine Guillaume, d'où: autre Thomas Gailhard, marié à Isabeau Perier, cinquième consul du Puy en 1698, qui fit enregistrer ses armoiries dans d'Hozier. Leur fils Thomas-Antoine quatrième consul en 1713, seigneur de Couteaux, baron de Ceyssac, allié à Marie-Mathieuve Nolhac, devint secrétaire du roi vivait encore en 1762. Il fut le père d'Antoine Gaillard, baron de Ceyssac, marié le 3 février 1732, à Jeanne-Françoise Richiout d'Adiac qui furent la tige des: 1° Gailhard de Couteaux, barons de Ceyssac, éteints; 2° Gailhard de Senilhac et de Fareyrolles, éteints; 3° Gailhard de la Roche, existants. Un autre rameau est issu de Jean Gailhard, père de Jacques, marié vers 1620 à Jacquette de Chabron d'où: Guilhaume, marié à Marie Brunel, père du Hugues Gailhard, seigneur de St-Martin en 1650, qui fut la souche des seigneurs de Beyssac près St-Jean-de-Nay, éteints. On trouve aussi sous ce nom: des chanoines de N.-D. du Puy, l'un d'eux victime de la Révolution; divers officiers de cavalerie. Convoquée aus assemblées de la sénéchaussée du Puy (1789). Trois membres de cette famille sont portés sur la liste des émigrés de la Haute-Loire. Marie-Antoine Gaillard de Senilhac, né au Puy le 15 août 1766, benédictin, âgé de 28 ans, fut guillotiné à Paris le 16 juillet 1794. Nobles alliances. ...
