Alcuni storici ritengono che il capostipite di questa famiglia sia un tal Michele di Giovanni Ginanni, uno dei primati d'Ungheria che nel 1241 seguirono il loro Re Bela IV quando fu costretto a rifugiarsi in Dalmazia, perché debellato dai Tartari. Infatti, nella Cattedrale di Arbe esiste un documento di quell'epoca, ove è detto che la reliquia di S. Cristoforo fu donata a quella chiesa da Michele di Giovanni Ginanni.
