Antica famiglia bresciana, le cui memorie risalgono certamente al secolo XIV. Nel giuramento di fedeltà alla Repubblica di Venezia, che i notabili bresciani fecero nel 1426, nelle mani del Condottiero Carmagnola, figurano Mazzano e Bartolomeo Guagnetti, il cognome della famiglia indica l'antica arte esercitata nella città "fertile di spade". Nel 1450 è console di giustizia un Marchesino Guagnetti; mentre negli estimi dal 1438 al 1469 vi figura un Tetalino assieme al fratello Antonio, il quale sedeva nel 1488 nel Consiglio Generale della Città al momento in cui fu decisa la "serrata" del Consiglio. Da Antonio nacque Eremita (ammesso nel Consiglio Generale nel 1503) padre di Antonio e di Ercole: la discendenza del primo si estinse nella prima metà del secolo XVII, mentre quella del secondo vive tuttora.
