Apellido de origen frisio, cuya primera denominación fue Onama. Se encuentra ya establecido en Cataluña hacia 1470. A la casa de su apellido, que radicó en La Bisbal, perteneció don Santiago de J. y Rajas, familiar de número del tribunal del Santo Oficio, que fue contador general de consolidación y comisionado regio para la venta de obras pías en todas las islas Filipinas y cónsul general de S. M. C. en Amsterdam. Este don Santiago obtuvo certificación de nobleza y blasones en Madrid el 20 de enero de 1816, por el cronista y rey de armas don Manuel Pérez Dávila. Entre sus hermanos estuvieron doña Lucía, que casó con el coronel don Latino Fitz-Gerald, gobernador del Castillo de la Trinidad de Rosas. Doña Lucía, durante el sitio de Gerona, fue capitana de la escuadra de San Narciso, en la compañía de Santa Bárbara. Otro hermano, el teniente coronel de ingenieros de los reales ejércitos, don Manuel José Narciso de J. y Bellsolar fue condecorado con la medalla de oro de sufrimiento por la patria el 12 de febrero de 1816; pasó a la República de Guatemala, donde fue ministro de la Guerra, y en donde casó, en el sagrario de la catedral, el 29 de mayo de 1829, con doña María Josefa Peña y Ramírez, de quien dejó sucesión. ...
