Apellido de origen castellano. De las montañas de Santander, extendido por toda la Península. Pedro de V., Conquistador de la isla de Gran Canaria, era descendiente del Reino de León, cuyo Solar estaba situado en la Tierra de Campos. Los de la rama mayor esta Casa fueron Señores de Grajal, elevados a la Dignidad Condal en 1599. Este título fue concedido por Real despacho de 8 de marzo a Don Juan de V. y Enríquez de Toledo, Señor de Grajal de Campos. Desde 1943 es XVI Conde el Duque de Alburquerque. Don Pedro de V., fue padre de Luis de V., vecino de Gáldar, de su matrimonio con Doña Leonor de Quintana. Este último casó con Doña Catalina de Morales, hijas de Francisco de Castrillo y de Doña Juana de Morales. Don José Manuel de la V. y Rodríguez del T., nacido en 1807, probó su nobleza en la Real Orden de Calatrava. Don Matías V. Guerra, nació en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria el 25 de julio de 1905. Estudió la carrera de Derecho en la Universidad de La Laguna y Facultad de Granada, donde obtuvo el título de Licenciado, incorporándose más tarde al Colegio de Abogados de Las Palmas. Contrajo matrimonio en 1930, con la distinguida dama Doña Clara-Rosa Sintes Rodríguez. En 1945, fue nombrado Presidente del Cabildo Insular de Gran Canaria, cargo que desempeñaría hasta fines de 1960, en que fuera designado Gobernador Civil de la Provincia de Barcelona. En 1962 es nombrado Embajador de España en Venezuela y en Trinidad Tobago, cargo éste que desempeña en la misma época. ...
