Antica famiglia spagnola, di chiara ed avita virtù, originariamente detta Canceller, un cui ramo, anteriormente al XVI secolo, giunse in Italia e, al seguito dei re aragonesi, stabilendosi nel regno di Napoli, ove, a causa dei soliti fenomeni di fonetica dialettale, iniziò a cognominarsi Lacancellera. Ivi, inoltre, tal casato, verosimilmente, venne fregiato del cavalierato, in seguito alla partecipazione, sotto i vessilli aragonesi, connotata da coraggio e virtù, di un Carlos Lacancellera alla guerra d'Otranto, del 1481, contro gli Ottomani. Ma, d'altronde, la famiglia, sempre, riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: Rodrigo, giustiziere in terra di Bari, vivente nel 1492; Cav. Filippo, dottore in "utroque jure", vivente in Bari, nel 1521; dott.
