Procede este apellido navarro, muy extendido por América, del lugar de Lecaroz (cuyo nombre tomó), del Ayuntamiento del valle del Baztán y partido de Pamplona. Una línea se estableció en el lugar de Narvarte, del Concejo de Bértiz-Arana, en el mismo partido de Pamplona de la que procedieron las familias de igual apellido radicadas en América. Cuatro fueron los caballeros L. que pasaron a Chile, llamados Juan, Pedro, Ignacio y José de L. Juan y Pedro dejaron descendencia por líneas femeninas, y José perpetuó hasta hoy su sucesión por varonía. Dicho apellido de L., es tan antiguo, que en el "Executorial del Baztán", 1748, figura Santius Joanes de L. y otros, como fiadores de una donación hecha en 1203 por Calver Sotés y su hijo igual al Prior del Monasterio de Urdán. En siglos sucesivos los L. ocuparon siempre los primeros cargos de dicho valle. Una de las líneas chilenas, reconoce como tronco y fundador a Pedro de L. y Egózcue, natural del lugar navarro de Narvarte, que contrajo matrimonio en Ciga, lugar del mismo Valle del Baztán. El 28 de Febrero de 1656, casó con doña María Marta de Egózcue, bautizada el 15 de Marzo de 1616, que fué Señora del Palacio de Cabo de Armería de Egózcue (hija de Miguel de Egózcue y de doña María de Jáuregui). Tuvieron, entre otros, estos hijos: Sebastián de L. y Egózcue, que sigue, Fermín de L. y Egózcue, bautizado en 1662, fraile capuchino, con el nombre de Fray Fermín del Baztán, José de L. y Egózcue, y Catalina de L. y Egózcue ...
