Nobility crown LinierJean était fils de Godemard II, baron de Linières, seigneur de Mereville, Rougemont, de la province du Berry, et de Costance de La Tour. Il fut élu évêque de Viviers, le 12 novembre 1406, et sacré le 13 mars 1407. Il mourut à Valence, le 1 septembre 1442. Son épiscopat dura trente-six ans pendant lequel Monseigneur de Linières et les consuls de Viviers furent appelés à prendre part à l'assemblée des trois Etats du Languedoc convoquée le 21 septembre 1425. Cette assemblée avait pour but principal de nommer des députés aux Etats Généraux du pays de l'obéissance du roi de France; Charles VII en avait fixé la tenue au mois de novembre suivant à mehun-sur-Yeurre, en Berry. L'évêque, le chapitre et les consuls de Viviers, furent aussi appelés aux Trois Etats du Languedoc, que le Roi avait convoqués; les circostances firent changer le lieu et la date de cette assemblée, qui se réunit à Béziers au mois de juillet suivant. Elle vota des subsides pour parer à différents besoins de l'etat et en particulier pour soutenir la guerre contre les routiers et les Anglais. ...
