Nobility crown LorrainCette illustre maison, qui a donné des Empereur à l'Allemagne, était divisée en un grand nombre de branches; celles établies en France avaient pour auteur commun: Ferry de cette maison, comte de Vaudemont, marié en 1450 à Yolande d'Anjou, fille du Roi René et d'Isabeau, duchesse de cette famille. Philippe-Emmanuel, duc de Mercœur, gouverneur de Bretagne pour Henri III en 1582, fit valoir à la mort de ce prince les droits de Marie de Luxembourg, duchesse de Penthièvre, sa femme, sur le duché de Bretagne; n'ayant pu réussir à rendre cette province indépendante, il fiança sa fille à César, duc de Vendôme, fils naturel d'Henri IV, en 1598, et partit pour combattre les Turcs en Hongrie, où il mourut en 1602. René, marquis d'Elbeur, mort en 1566, épouse Marie, dame de Rieux, baronne d'Ancenis, dont Charles, créé duc d'Elbeuf en 1581; Emmanuel-Marie, arrière-petit-fils du précédent, né en 1677, épouse Innocente-Catherine de Rougé du Plessis-Bellière, dont les descendants se sont éteints en 1820. Jean, cardinal, évêque de Nantes et abbé de Blanche-Couronne en 1542, mort en 1550, à la fois possesseur de douze sièges épiscopaux; Charles, cardinal de Guise, archevêque de Reims, abbé de Prières en 1552, mort en 1574; quatre abbés de Coëtmalouën de 1593 à 1661. ...
