Los M. forman una de las más esclarecidas familias del reino de Valencia. Son originarios de Cataluña, contándose entre sus antepasados a Bernardo de M., que fué uno de los caballeros catalanes que ayudaron al rey don Jaime I de Aragón en la conquista de Valencia. En esta ciudad quedó ricamente heredado. Gombaldo de M. obtuvo del mismo monarca confimación de su nobleza; Bernardo de M. fué caballero de la Orden Militar de la Merced; Dalmacio de M. se halla inscrito entre los caballeros catalanes que en 1309 asistieron a las guerras contra el rey de Granada y bloqueo de la ciudad de Almería. Lorenzo M., natural de Alcoy, a quien el Rey don Felipe IV, por Real cédula de 8 de Junio de 1635, concedió el privilegio de "Caballero militar y generoso". Casó en la ciudad de Alcoy, el 29 de Diciembre de 1573, con doña Andrea Gisbert (hija de Cristóbal Gisbert). Testó ante Miguel Pérez el 21 de Octubre de 1634, y dejó estos hijos: Jaime Juan M. y Gisbert, que sigue; Lucas Cristóbal M. y Gisbert, bautizado en Alcoy el 18 de Octubre de 1591, que se unió en matrimonio con doña Violante Perpiñá. Viudo de esta señora, contrajo nuevas nupcias con doña Dorotea Corbi y Morán, y al morir esta dama celebró su tercer matrimonio con doña Luisa Llopis y Gisbert, su prima, y, finalmente, casó por cuarta vez con doña Josefa Barbert. De los dos primeros matrimonios no tuvo sucesión. Del tercer enlace nació Lorenza M. y Llopis y Josefa Ana M. y Llopis, esposa de Gaspar Almunia y Pascual. ...
