Nobility crown MangilliCon delibera 7 gennaio 1661 il Consiglio di Udine accoglieva nella cittadinanza popolare i fratelli Benedetto e Girolamo qm. Lorenzo Mangilli, originari di Monte Marenzo nella valle di S. Martino nel Bergamasco, i quali da oltre sette anni avevano aperto a Udine una bottega di panni e telerie. Una successiva delibera del 1677 conferiva la cittadinanza al loro nipote Lorenzo qm. Gio. Batta Mangilli, pure mercante di telerie, dal quale discende la famiglia dei marchesi Mangilli tuttora fiorente. Un fratello di Lorenzo, a nome Martino, suo socio nel negozio, nel 1691 si divise da lui e andò a stabilirsi nel villaggio di Povoletto (Udine), dove la sua discendenza si confuse nel popolo. Gio. Batta, figlio di Lorenzo, ritiratosi dal commercio, che gli aveva procacciata una pingue sostanza, chiese nel 1752 di essere aggregato alla nobiltà udinese, ciò che gli fu concesso con delibera del 27 marzo di quell'anno. Fece acquisto del bel palazzo Antonini in Borgo Grazzano, e di diverse tenute a Marsura e a Mortegliano. Nel 1776 il Senato veneto aveva soppresso l'antica abbazia di Moggio con decreto emanato sino dal 2 settembre 1773, e posto il 5 marzo 1777 all'incanto il feudo cui andava unita la giurisdizione in prima istanza, una voce nel Parlamento della Patria, e lo "spezioso" titolo di marchese di S. Gallo di Moggio. Ben 22 volte fu esperita invano l'asta. Finalmente ai 19 gennaio 1778 i signori Mangilli di Udine e Leoni cittadini originari di Venezia presentarono insieme, per giusta metà, una offerta di 44000 ducati, che fu giudicata conveniente ed accettata. Ed il 4 febbraio 1778 Francesco e Giuseppe qm. Gio. Batta Mangilli e i loro nipoti Gio. Batta e Lorenzo qm. Benedetto, venivano investiti di metà del feudo acquistato, col diritto di assistere alle sedute del Parlamento della Patria, alternandosi coi consorti Leoni, rimanendo nella data stessa descritti nell'Aureo Libro Titolati col titolo di marchesi di S. Gallo di Moggio. Questa famiglia contrasse alleanze con diverse famiglie nobili, quali i Romano, di Toppo, Janis, Alpruni, di Brazzà, Moroldi, Gropplero, di Colloredo, di Varmo, di Mels, Ronchi, di Strassoldo, tutte del Friuli, Rasponi ...
