Famille de robe de Brioude, établie à Langeac dès le XVème siècle. Filiation depuis Pierre Martinon notaire royal à Brioude, né vers 1550 et mort avant 1620, marié à Antoinette Chalvon. Deux branches principales: I. l'une dite de St-Ferréol a donné: des notaires royaux; des avocats en parlement; des assesseurs en l'élection de Brioude (1670); un juge des gabelles à Brioude né en 1733; un juge au tribunal civile de la même ville: un deputé de la Hte-Loire (1849): Amedée de Saint-Ferréol, exilé sous l'Empire, réélu en 1885 et auteur de nombreux écrits politiques. Cette branche anoblie par lettres patentes du roi Louis XVIII, en date du 16 novembre 1816, est aujourd'hui éteinte. II. l'autre branche, dite d'Aubagnat, compte: des avocats en parlement, un lieutenant criminel en l'élection de Brioude (1669) et s'est fondue par alliance (1833) dans les Gaubert autorisés par adoption à relever le nom de Martinon d'Aubagnat. A cette famille appartenait: un savant jésuite (1583-1662); un chanoine de St-Gal de Langeac (1592); un curé de Paulhaguet mort en 1823; un avocat en parlement, lieutenant-civil du comté de Brioude (1697); un receveur des amendes en la maîtrise des eaux et forêts de St-Flour (1754); un officier de dragons blessé pendant la campagne de France, etc. ...
