La famiglia è di origine piemontese e propriamente dell'Astigiano. Con R.D. 28 dicembre 1924 di motu proprio fu da Sua Maestà il Re Vittorio Emanuele II concesso il titolo ereditario comitale per primogenitura mascolina ai fratelli Giulio e Vincenzo. Con altro R.D. del 5 marzo 1925 e RR. LL. PP. del 13 dicembre 1925 fu ai medesimi concesso il su indicato stemma gentilizio. Nicola, padre degli insigniti, prese parte alla guerra italo-austriaca col grado di colonnello nel 2° bersaglieri. Fu ferito il 16 agosto 1915 e morì a Milano nel Padiglione Zonda il 13 settembre 1915. Gli fu conferita la medaglia d'argento al valore militare con la seguente motivazione: " Riuscito con energiche ed incessanti cure nella preparazione del reggimento proprio, era di preclaro esempio ai suoi inferiori in ripetute ardite ricognizioni.
